The Big Three Pt. 3

Ok here we are part 3 of our 3 part series! And while I love all of these three pieces as if they were my own children, this one holds a special place in my heart. This one is like a warm hug. This one is Surrender

In Sanskrit as it’s written in the Yoga Sutras this third step of Kriya yoga (the three step self realization action plan as laid out in chapter 2 of the book) is called Ishvara Pranidhana- which, as it has been taught to me, means not only surrender but surrender to something greater than yourself and not only that Ishvara is a sort of place holder meaning “insert here whatever high power/person/place/thing that speaks to you” aka it doesn’t matter who or what you’re doing this thing for or giving it up to, but for this thing to be successful, you need to be able to give it up to something greater than yourself.

There will come a time on any journey where don’t understand what is happening or can’t quiet see what to do next and the ability to surrender to the ides that there is something bigger at play, that we, in our currently limited scope, cannot see. And we need that surrender of energy to allow for some new possibility to enter.

What does this have to do with your roadblocks and busting through them? Well if you are super stuck this is a great place to check in for two reasons. The first, and the most obvious, we can ask ourselves- am I trying to control this whole thing by myself, little “s” self, or am I open up to a power greater than myself, my “S” Self? Can I put down this struggle and allow myself to be supported, to allow this to be more easeful, for the universe to conspire in my favor. Even just reading that phrase I always feel as sense of ease rush over me. “The universe is conspiring in my favor, I surrender and open myself up to receive my highest good.”

Now the second meaning I get from this step can feel like a more active form. I also translate surrender to something greater to mean accountability to something outside of our own minds. If I am trying to really create transformation in my life, it’s one thing to commit in my own head- it’s a WHOLE OTHER THING to commit to my friend/sister/coach/trainer. To commit my time/money/resources and put the real peddle to the metal.

So for step three the action step is 2 part
1- Answer the question, truly answer the question- how do I define a higher power/greater good. This one can be dense but it is a mandatory question to answer on this path. I’ll say again- it matters not what you call it, only that you call it
2- Define a way you can get some accountabilty in the outside world- make a date to meet with a friend, make the appointment, sign up for the class, sign up for a course (hello private yoga therapy, semi private groups & Soul School Semester!- I got you covered!) but get your goal out of your head and into real life in a real way that lovingly forces your dream to be on the table!

Thoughts become things and accountability can be a key way things move out of your head and into the next manifest stage to reality!

With great respect and so much love,
NK
